One of our regular clients works at the City of Ely Community College, and when she said the College was holding a fashion show to raise money for the school prom, we volunteered to look after the models' hair.
Four of our stylists – Mandy, Michelle, Louise and Zoe, and two of our juniors Stacey and Ellis – volunteered to make sure all the models' hair looked fabulous. "Nobody had a lunch break," said Mandy, "there was so much to do that we all just worked straight through."
All the models were pupils at the school – mostly girls, but there were a couple of lads. On the day, some of the girls came to the salon at noon so we could put rollers in and prep their hair. We then closed the salon early at 3pm to allow our stylists and juniors to go to the college and get the models' hair ready for the evening show which began at 7pm. Between them our girls styled the hair of 19 models, each with a different look.
"We did a couple of traditional bridal-type hair styles, but most of it was quite edgy – rope knot with some curls down, a crimped quiff with some tussled curls up, a barrel curl hair up with a side plait," said Mandy. "Other styles we used were braids, beehives, worms, twists, pleats, and buns."
